Pediatric Dentistry

Dentistry isn’t just for adults! Taking care of your child's oral health is important as well!

At Dr. Ackerman’s our team is keen on keeping kids’ teeth clean – all the while making the experience fun!

The primary teeth are just as important as their permanent ones, and healthy teeth are a necessary component for healthy development. They help to shape the child’s face and also serve a crucial function in chewing and speaking. To set your child up for success, start brushing their teeth as soon as their first one appears. In addition, they should be visiting Dr. Ackerman regularly after their first birthday. This not only allows for their oral health to be carefully monitored but also to start building a healthy relationship with the dentist’s office.

  • Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

Baby bottle tooth decay or syndrome is a form of tooth decay that can destroy the enamel and underlying bone structure. The child’s mouth is a perfect environment for bacteria, and the more sugary liquids they consume – like milk or formula drinks – the faster these harmful acids will attack their tooth enamel. This form can destroy permanent tooth enamel and even go into the underlying bone structure which will hinder their development.

To prevent this, regular visits to Dr. Ackerman are highly recommended as he has the experience and experience needed to combat and prevent this particular tooth decay. A treatment plan will be created to bring your child’s smile back on the right track.

    Pediatric Dental X-Rays

Children have a higher risk of experiencing dental problems than adults because their mouths change and grow rapidly. To prevent tooth decay, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends x-ray examinations every six months. Dental x-rays allow our trained professionals to diagnose health conditions that cannot be detected during clinical examination, and if dental problems are found and treated early, your child can avoid a lot of dental issues in the future.

To protect the health and well-being of our young patients, we use conservative measures when exposing them to radiation. The truth is, there is little to no risk whatsoever in getting an x-ray! It provides more protection than untreated teeth problems, which could harm your child’s oral health development.

    Baby Teeth Extractions

Extraction is always a last result for us, but extracting one or more primary teeth is necessary for certain situations. These may include extensive decay on their front tooth, and/or localized infection such as an abscess or gum boil – among others! To prevent pain and discomfort, your child may need to have one or more of their teeth extracted.

This may be concerning for some parents as the process can seem intense, but with our advanced technology and years of experience, our team and doctor are confident that we can protect your child’s smile, strengthening their oral health while not damaging their aesthetics.

Preserving the strength and beauty of your child’s smile is our ultimate goal. If you live in the Carmicheal, CA area and want more information on how we can benefit your child’s oral development, contact our office today to set up a consultation with our expert.
